After countless years of building reliable high horsepower Mustangs, we are proud to announce completion of our 20th Subaru EJ Build. Its a funny little engine, that takes a decent amount of effort to get the bore straight. They seem to work well with factory hardware and headgaskets. We have had a couple that needed to stagger crank journal size to get the bearing clearance correct “think Volkswagon Beetle engine”. But they seem to live well south of 8000rpm.
If you have any questions about your upcoming Subaru Build feel free to give us a call so we can go over the details with you.
Under the NMRA’s Pure Street Class are a ton of rules and restrictions. The short story is: heads up, stick shift, .500″ lift cam, and unported dual plane intake manifold. The heavy hitters are in the bottom 10’s at close to 130mph n/a and under 310 inches. With the RSP Shortblock and some Kris Starnes ported cylinder heads, Dave Hill’s ‘93 Coupe makes nearly 450 wheel. It’s pretty impressive considering the rule book doesn’t allow much more static compression than 10.0:1 and you must retain factory unmodified hydraulic lifters.
While Dave’s car has yet to break into the front half of the field (10.50@129), he’s getting closer while juggling his own business and (at least) three children.
Last night our friends from Orlando Mustang (http://www.orlandomustang.com/) brought by a cherry, unrestored 24,000 mile 1970 Boss 302. These are the type of cars that make you remember how you got pulled into this eclectic group of car nuts way back when. We were afforded the opportunity to put our foot into it on the dyno to see how she did. We all were making estimations about how it would perform, and we should have given the little 302 a bit more credit.
It’s a shame to think that so many young hot-rodders nowadays will never set up points or change a set of jets in a carb. Nor, will they know the smell of an old muscle car or shift a top loader. This particular car was headed North to spend some time in a climate controlled garage, but before it left, we strapped it on the dyno to see what kind of power it would produce in all-stock form. We questioned the date on the Poly-Glas tires, but Peter said, “It will be fine.” The first pull made 227whp SAE, after some simple jetting and timing changes, it belted out 246whp with a rather impressive 270wtq and went pretty clean and flat to 6000.
We all thought this was pretty impressive, considering the elevated numbers of the muscle car era, and the car’s totally stock trim. What was also pretty cool, for my first time working on older Mustangs, sliding the hood down on the latch - without fighting the hinges the whole way down. We’ll be sure to post up some pictures of the next classic-era Mustang Peter decides to bring by - sadly it seems the number of quality cars from this time period are becoming fewer and fewer.
At RSP we pride ourselves on ensuring quality in every thing we do, from the simplest oil change to the most complicated fabrication project. Check out our Photo Gallery to see some customer cars… and check out some of the fabrication work in progress below!
To all of our loyal customers, we would love to get pics and videos of your rides at shows / track / on the street so that we can show off on the site. If anyone has any multimedia content they would like to show off email john@realstreetperformance.com and we will upload to the site! Thanks!!
Now that we’ve got the dyno all set up, we’ve had a chance to sit down and get our tuning and dyno pricing together. Give us a call if you’d like to set up an appointment!
