      Description

      This is AEM's new Universal Standalone ECU designed for 4cyl engines built off of the same frame work as the popular Series2 Plug n Play EMS computers. It is a complete standalone ecu that will completely run the engine, ignition, boost control, fuel control, knock control, idle, nitrous control, and everything else. like the series2 plug n play ecu's AEM sent us a pre-release EMS4 to familiarize ourselves with before they are made public so we can offer experienced tech support to our customers once they hit the market.

      1. The computer is Universal, meaning it can run any 4cyl engine including a car engine or a motorcycle engine, or a snow mobile, or a wave runner, jet ski, etc.

      2. Since its universal, you will need to wire it into your harness. You have 3 options here:

        a.) There is a "plug n pin" harness that comes with a connector and pins. You can either cut your factory ecu connector off and pin your factory harness wires into this connector. Or you can buy an ecu extension jumper harness that normally goes between your factory harness connector and your factory ecu, and just cut the ecu connector off and pin the jumper harness wires into the AEM connector, allowing you to remove the entire system easily if you want to go back to stock ecu. (this way doesnt molest your stock harness)

        b.) There is also a 96" Long Universal Full Wiring Harness complete with Fuse Block and Main Relay if you want to do a complete custom install that will totally replace your factory engine harness. This could be good for you guys who want to do a wire tuck, or maybe your factory harness is just in poor condition and you want to start fresh...

        c.) The last option might be the easiest. We will be offering plug and play adapter harnesses that connect your factory wiring harness to the AEM EMS4 allowing you to effortlessly install the ecu into your car in minutes. We will also include base maps for you to start and run the engine well enough to get you to your local tuner.

      3. This ecu is based off the same framework as the popular AEM Series2 Plug n Play ECU's so it uses the same AEM Tuner software (and the newest version is very easy to work with)
        This ECU controls 4 Ignition Outputs and 4 Fuel Outputs, so it can only run a 4 cylinder, but it also has User Configurable PWM Outputs that can be used for:

      4. Boost Control
        Knock Control
        Idle Control
        Nitrous Control (Also works with Water/Meth Injection)

      5. It has 8 User configurable inputs or outputs

      6. It recognizes both MAG and HALL cam and crank sensors so you wont have any problems using one of these on these cars.

      7. It has 8mb of Internal Logging so you can data log internally without having a laptop hooked up, and review it later on your computer.

      8. All of the harness options come with pre-installed USB Communication ports, and CAN ports for data communication. That means you wont need to use an oldschool serial port laptop to tune the ecu.

      9. The case of the EMS4 is small, lightweight, compact, weatherproof, etc.

      AEM’s EMS-4 Universal Standalone Programmable Engine Management System is the ideal standalone Engine Management System for modified Powersports and four-cylinder race car applications. The EMS-4 was created using AEM's powerful Series 2 hardware and includes all of its advanced features without the unneeded ancillary components.

      WHY YOU WANT THIS
      If you have modified your four-cylinder Powersports application beyond the factory ECU’s ability to control engine operation, or have a 4-cylinder race vehicle that does not require some of the advanced hardware features of an AEM Series 2 Plug & Play System, AEM’s EMS-4 provides complete engine control for the maximum power and reliability.

      THE HARDWARE
      AEM’s EMS-4 provides complete engine control for small engines with up to 4 cylinders. The unit includes a 36-pin connetor that is specifically designed to operate in harsh environments. It is completely sealed and weather/shock proof, allowing it to be mounted anywhere. The EMS-4 works with MAG or HALL crank inputs and can directly drive smart coils or an external ignitor such as AEM’s 4-Channel Coil Driver (part # 30-2840).
